The year's first strawberries!

I got a quart this morning, and it's already half gone. :-D I was going to make a strawberry clafoutis with the farm eggs I got, but I think I'm going to run out of strawberries before I get around to it. These eggs are so good that I won't mind a plain egg custard.

I also got a loaf of whole wheat from my favorite baker. He built his own wood-fired brick oven, and nobody else in town even comes close! When his chilies are fruiting, he makes an amazing mole bread, with sliced jalapeños and chunks of 70% chocolate. But I'm in Missouri, so it's not quite time for that yet.

At this very moment, I have a plate full of strawberries with black pepper, and hard-boiled eggs with smoked sea salt. I wish I could share.

My local market (the most-local one; I'm in the lovely San Francisco Bay Area, which has a smorgasboard of markets) is Thursday, and I'll be getting more strawberries and PEAS!!! then. It will be delicious.

The eggs are aaaaallll yours. :)

PEAS!!!! We don't have those yet, but a couple of weeks ago I bought a bunch of pea leaves. They resembled watercress without being quite so peppery.

One of the farmers talked my aunt into getting those, and she gets them regularly now. She steams them in the microwave in a covered glass dish, and there are regular horrible puns made about the "pea-ness" of the flavor.

Hee! I should try that next time--I just washed them and ate them plain. This is the Season of Not Cooking, in my house.
