But it was a tiny local shop selling groceries and deli foods, and I managed to score two bags of Agen prunes (pruneaux d'Agen), which must surely make this post legal.
The name is a "protected geographical designation" in the EU, so only dried Ente plums from Lot-et-Garonne in France can be sold under the name. And they're the opposite of the shrivelled, hard chewy things sometimes sold as prunes -- these are prunes which remind you that prunes are dried plums, concentrated sources of rich plummy goodness, aged like fine wine. They're dried then rehydrated, so they're soft and plump and moist and glossy and generally pornilicious.
I am grateful to the universe that my digestive system will tolerate large quantities of prunes (or figs) before any, er, laxative effects kick in.
