My fruit & veg box delivery service (CSA if you're in the US?) sells other foodstuffs, too.

I have venison mince and wild partridge, delivered to my doorstep in a cardboard box filled with icepacks and eco-wool insulation.

I gloat.

Venison I know, but "mince"?? What is this noun? and is it related to "mince pie"?

Mince? Finely chopped meat, -- e.g. beef mince, such as one would use to make sphaghetti bolognese? Is this a terminology difference? What would you guys call that?

Not like mince pie, where the "mincemeat" is chopped fruit and nuts. But apparently until the 17th C or so, mince pies did contain minced meat as well, whence the name.

AH. I can visualize that. There may be no exact equivalent. We would speak of "ground meat" (usually "ground beef" for hamburgers, but also turkey, pork, etc.). That's put through a screw-type grinder, I've never seen it actually chopped.

I think mince is ground too -- "chopped" was me being imprecise. So, yes. Ground venison!

No! You have to return the boxes with the insulation so they can be re-used.

I imagine they might be rather surprised if they got the boxes back and found the insulation had turned into knitting.
